Thank you Erica! We know that my grandmother and her sister shared the same mother as my father met his aunt Maria and his grandmother when he was six years old on a trip to Italy in 1927. My grandmother's maiden name was Angelina Porcile and my grandmother's sister was Maria Fighetti so I believe it is safe to assume that my grandmother and her sister had different fathers. Does that sound correct to you? I believe that I should search birth records for Fighetti for my great aunt Maria instead of Porcile like my grandmother. Would you agree?

Thank you! I had been looking on familysearch.org for a marriage for Porcile thinking that my grandmother's parents married before having their second child, Maria. Now, that I know that Maria's father was Fighetti I will look for birth and marriage records for Fighetti. My grandmother and her sister shared the same mother whose name was Cecilia Pedemente. Would any records, birth, or marriage, ever be under the mother's name or always the under the last name of the father?
