It actually says the mother was well-to-do? kind of implies that the father wasn't and she married below her station doesn't it?
We don't know... But I don't think so because he made a military career and therefore he could come from a wealthy family.
Here is Rita Apollonia Vittoria born Dec 15 1910. Father Giovanni Romanin and mother Palmira Mazzoli.

sorry about that long link, if a mod can modify my message and remove it, I notice now it's too long and makes the page wonky, and doesn't work, apparently.
But basically, go to google MAPS and type in venice and then go to street view!
Scusate per il link, pare non funzionare e non mi ero resa conto avrebbe sformato la pagina, se un mod potesse modificare il mio messaggio togliendolo sarei grata, in questa sezione non vedo il tasto modifica.

I will try google earth again. The last time I did it, it most definitely did not have the street images...excited to try it now and see my gorgeous city again.
Erica, I have spent many hours in the Ghetto in Venice. I even got to go to Sabbath services there...an amazing experience!! It's interesting to see this connection to Judaism. My mom always told me that it was believed a branch of the family was originally Jewish and forced to convert. There is a belief that if that happens, somewhere down the line it will be brought back to Judaism. My mother converted to Judaism before i was born in Israel. So far, I don't know if this particular Romanin is connected...but it will be interesting to find out.
I wonder, is anyone here actually in Venice?

I've been to Venice once and I have visited the Jewish Ghetto...
I love that city but I live in Tuscany.
I'm curious to find out if the Romanin are related to you...

Well, I am looking at all the Romanins and tracking what I find because my great-grandmother was Bice Romanin, daughter of Marino Romanin and Amelia Formento. I have found a couple of siblings, but still no connection to any of the others.
Searching the records is very slow going. I think when I can finally get to the marriage records, that should start to help piece the puzzle together.... I hope!

So here is another Romanin that was recorded as being Jewish.
Mario Leone Romanin born February 28 1901 to Guido Romanin and Ermenegilda Luzzatto. Looks like he was recorded as Jewish on Jul 27 1939...
What name would Ermenegilda translate to?
