I have located the 1910 US Census for Vito Colangelo, Vita Colangelo’s brother. The census shows that Vito’s first born son is named Nicola. As “ziadani” noted earlier the tradition is to name the first son after the grandfather (I was named after my grandfather Cologero/Charles). If this is true then we have evidence that “ciao457” has indeed located Vita Colangelo’s birth record.

I have also made some progress on finding the ancestors of Caterina Telesca. I found a family tree for Caterina’s Grandfather, Vito Telesca, on FamilySearch.org. Connecting that tree to her takes her genealogy back to 1771.

Once again with the generous help of the volunteers on this wonderful website, I am learning so much about my ancestors!

Unfortunately no records have yet been found for Domenico Telesco (or maybe Telesca). Any suggestions?

Maybe the Caterina Telesca that “mmogno” found is not the right person. We are not sure that Telesca was also her maiden name.

Credo che sull'atto di matrimonio di Dominic Telesco o delle sue sorelle sono indicati i nomi dei genitori, dovrebbero essersi sposati tutti a Buffalo.

L'unica cosa che ho trovato, per quello che può valere, è questa trascrizione della morte di una Caterina Telesco avvenuta nel 1927. Potrebbe essere la madre di Domenico, presente nel censimento del 1925 e non in quello del 1930.

The only thing is that in Susan's obituary is written that her maiden name is Angelella and not Telesco, so maybe their mother Caterina married an Angelella.
This needs further investigation.

I am now going to research the marriage records.

“eri1” has made an interesting discovery. It is certainly possible that when Caterina traveled to America in 1887 with her 4 year old son Domenico, she was either already a widow or perhaps unwed. Then in America she marries a man with the surname Angelella and gives birth to three daughters. Some time prior to 1915 she is widowed and moves into the household of her son Domenico. This is where we first see her on the New York State Census. Of course this is all speculation, but it fits the timeline.

This is the obituary of Susan's son Daniel Sabia. Daniel was your mom's first cousin.
