Hi
I am trying to find more information on Leonetto Badiali (born Glasgow, Scotland, UK 2nd December 1897).
He was the son of Santino Badiali (born 1867 in Sommocolonia, Barga, Lucca) and Teresa Pieroni (born 1867 in Sommocolonia, Barga, Lucca).
I have found Leonetto in the WWI Italian soldiers' deaths database, so he must have went to Lucca and joined the Italian army.
It says he died in captivity on 19th June 1918.
Would there be any more information on him or his military career in Italy?
He also had a brother called Amerigo Badiali (born Glasgow, Scotland, UK in 1899) - would there be any information assuming he also joined the Italian army?

Hi Darin,
in Italy there are two types of military records:
- conscription records, called Liste di leva, which list all males, listed by year of birth, within each military district;
- and Ruoli matricolari (record of draftee curriculum), which document the individual's military service.
I think you should ask commune of Barga for Liste di leva (documents kept by Historical Archive of commune of Barga):
http://siusa.archivi.beniculturali.it/c ... oScheda=ca
Contact details:
http://siusa.archivi.beniculturali.it/c ... to=reg-tos
and State Archive of Pisa (which holds some records from ex Distretto militare di Lucca) for his ruolo matricolare - but not sure they have documents of those born in 1897 or 1899:
http://san.beniculturali.it/web/san/det ... o&id=46520
you should give it a try anyway and contact them:
http://san.beniculturali.it/web/san/det ... 14&id=4914
Finally his name appears on a gravestone in the cemetery of Barga, as written here:
http://www.giornaledibarga.it/?pg=8&id=12362
It seems he died in Austria, in Sigmundsherberg's prison camp.
Regards,
Erica
